CTET Exam Pattern
The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India to assess the eligibility of candidates for teaching positions in primary and upper primary schools. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, here is the general exam pattern for CTET:
CTET Paper-I (for classes I to V – Primary Stage):
- Duration: The exam is for 2 hours and 30 minutes.
- Number of Questions: There are a total of 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
- Subjects: The paper consists of the following subjects:
- Child Development and Pedagogy
- Language I (compulsory, typically the first language you are proficient in)
- Language II (compulsory, usually English or another language)
- Mathematics
- Environmental Studies
- Marking Scheme: Each question carries one mark, and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
CTET Paper-II (for classes VI to VIII – Elementary Stage):
- Duration: The exam is for 2 hours and 30 minutes.
- Number of Questions: There are a total of 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
- Subjects: The paper consists of the following subjects:
- Child Development and Pedagogy
- Language I (compulsory, typically the first language you are proficient in)
- Language II (compulsory, usually English or another language)
- For Mathematics and Science teachers: Mathematics and Science
- For Social Studies/Social Science teachers: Social Studies/Social Science
- Marking Scheme: Each question carries one mark, and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
Important Notes:
- CTET is an objective type test with no negative marking.
- To qualify for CTET, candidates must score at least 60% marks (55% for reserved categories) in the exam.
- CTET scores are valid for 7 years from the date of declaration of the result.
