Tier-I is an objective type (multiple choice questions) computer-based examination. It consists of four sections:

  2. General Intelligence: This section tests the candidate’s reasoning and problem-solving abilities. It includes questions on topics like analogies, coding-decoding, classification, series, puzzles, direction and distance, logical reasoning, etc.
  3. Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill): This section tests the candidate’s mathematical abilities. It includes questions on topics like number systems, decimals, percentages, ratios and proportions, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, time and distance, data interpretation, etc.

Tier-II (Descriptive Paper):

Tier-II is a descriptive paper that consists of writing an essay and a letter/application. This paper is designed to test the candidate’s writing skills in English or Hindi. The essay should be around 200-250 words, while the letter/application should be approximately 150-200 words.

Tier-III (Skill Test/Typing Test):

Tier-III is a skill test/typing test. The skill test is for Data Entry Operators (DEO), while the typing test is for Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant, Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC), and Court Clerk positions.

  • Skill Test for Data Entry Operator (DEO): Candidates are required to have data entry speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour on the computer. The test is conducted using an Excel spreadsheet.
  • Typing Test for Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant, LDC, and Court Clerk: Candidates should have a typing speed of 35 words per minute (wpm) in English or 30 wpm in Hindi. The typing test is conducted on a computer.

It’s important to note that the syllabus for Tier-I is the same for all posts, while the skill test/typing test in Tier-III is specific to the type of post applied for.

Candidates are advised to refer to the official SSC CHSL notification and the SSC website for the most up-to-date information on the syllabus and exam pattern as it may be subject to change. Additionally, practicing previous year’s question papers and taking mock tests is essential for effective preparation for the SSC CHSL examination.
